High tide

Around this time of year (November to February) Hua Hin experiences some really high tides so if you enjoy a beach walk in the morning you could find it rapidly turning into a surf or swim! The photo below was taken looking north from the Wora Bura Resort in Khao Takiab … beach, what beach?

I’ve seen it rougher than that. A few years ago, I did my best to walk the beach from the Sofitel to Khao Takieb each day. Come January, it was difficult as above picture demonstrates.
The little money I carried, my cigarettes, my house keys, my shirt and most importantly myself were in good old Neptune’s hands as the backlash from the breakwaters tried to wash me out to sea. Still, I carried on.
The folk on the hotel terraces were laughing at me, especially as I disappeared down some hole, struck my foot on a submerged rock or had to negiotiate deeper waters around inconsiderate steps built down onto the beach – I’m sure these are illegal in Hua Hin, by the way.
I always made it and enjoyed a couple of beers at a quiet restaurant at the end of the beach. Then got a songtaew back to town rather than risk the return journey if the tide was coming in.
Wet? Isn’t that supposed to happen at the beach?
