Hua Hin Hot Topics - Health Freaks

Health issues have dominated the hot topics of the week as an array of ailments, medication requests, and grumbles about overcharging hospitals have hit the forums. It maybe that time of year when the rains are setting in that residents start to feel under the weather. Visitors can also get the latest updates on whether their medication is available in Hua Hin, as we know there is no shortage of pharmacies but what they stock and what’s available over the counter is another matter.

The media frenzy over the escalating number of H1N1 cases in Thailand also has people talking. Schools are probably one of the areas where infection can spread fast and kids wearing face masks will soon be commonplace in them. Whether you’re a diehard conspiracy theorist who believes that it’s all a ploy by governments and drug companies to boost their profits or an overly sensitive hypochondriac currently constructing a quarantine shelter you can have your say on the boards.

More information came to light on the long-awaited high-speed ferry link between Hua Hin and Pattaya. It looks like it will finally go ahead with local papers over the pond reporting of a launch this month. The Scandinavian owned Thai Living Ferry Company plan to run a daily catamaran licensed to carry a hundred passengers however, since they had no website that we could find, prices, schedules and departure points are still a mystery… don’t hold your breath! If the service does proceed the biggest concern from Hua Hin’s expats would be an influx of Russian undesirables that currently populate Pattaya.

Computer conundrums seem to be plaguing a few however they can usually get a quick answer from the geeks at the online ‘digital surgery’ on the website. For those that need more serious treatment there are two workshops in Hua Hin offering PC servicing and repair, details are also on the site. The second computer constructed from donated parts is also underway now, this will be sent down to Mercy House Orphanage in Pranburi on completion. The project, started by HHAD members, involves collecting old computer components and building working machines that can then be donated to local charities. If you have any working parts that are less than four years old please drop them off at the Hua Hin Ham & Bacon shop on Soi 41.

Finally we end on a sad note as Hua Hin mourns the loss of Khun Tuck Dechapanya who passed away on July 2 and was cremated at Hua Hin temple on July 12. Loong Tuck was the first and only high profile resident of Hua Hin to act as an arbitrator and facilitator for foreigners with disputes to settle. Although he was not able to assist everybody he tirelessly dedicated his life to the town and the well being of its inhabitants and will be missed by many.
