Hua Hin Hot Topics - Burglars Abound

Another wave of house break-ins has been hitting Hua Hin residents as many share their experiences on the board. Certain areas have been named and the problems remain the same, namely sleeping security guards, ineffective police, and more opportunists looking for a quick and easy buck by targeting farang housing developments. An alarm is a good deterrent though a determined thief will soon get around one if they want to. A good business opportunity for someone would be to setup a security company that patrols these areas after dark, a job that the police should really be doing but we know how that works here.

Visitors seeking a snorkeling trip asked about the waters around Hua Hin and found out that they were murkier than a Bangkok klong. There is nothing to see in terms of marine life around the coast here and the closest place with clear water and a reef to snorkel on is Koh Talu in Bangsaphan which is around 2 hours drive south. The water starts to clear up around Prachuab but sadly Hua Hin has too live with an ocean that is a nice shade of brown for most of the year. More information on Koh Talu can be found on www.bangsaphanguide.com

As the Hua Hin Golf Festival continues more golfers are sharing their stories on the board. The popularity of the event is a testament to the fact that cheaper golf is good for all. Expats that may not be able to afford the tourist rates on local courses otherwise are getting out on the fairways and the courses are busy. Usually this time of year they would be dead so it begs the question we keep having to repeat: why don’t any of Hua Hin’s golf courses offer an expat card or discounted rates for residents? Black Mountain Golf Club are not even offering a discount green fee during the festival so their position on it is crystal clear – pay up or pee-off!

Another reconditioned computer was delivered to the Mercy House Orphanage in Pranburi and the project founders would like to thank all those that donated parts and time. More information and photos are on the forum, if you have any computer spares please drop them at the Hua Hin Ham and Bacon shop in soi 41. The team is now working on the third computer to be delivered to the orphanage, once their needs are satisfied they will seek other needy schools and causes. A little response from local hotels and businesses would be appreciated too, we’re pretty sure they have plenty of computer spares lying about!
